Dear Readers,
This time we publish the 118 th issue of MIR, which brings us closer to the jubilee 120 th issue of MIR, because next year in June will be the jubilee 1923-2023 – 100 years of the International Medical Journal. This approaching jubilee encourages all co-editors to work more actively for our historical magazine. It is important that the Universal Medical Esperanto founded in 1908 still has its organ and publishes it with the help of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical College of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. We know very well that the official organ of UMEA was founded for Esperanto-speaking medical professionals, but unfortunately there is now a lack of articles written in our beloved language Esperanto. To at least remember Esperanto a little, you can notice in each article a summary in Esperanto. For me, there was no possibility to continue publishing MIR without articles written in other languages, because simply even those Esperantist doctors who know Esperanto well do not help us by sending Esperanto-language articles. I still think that it is better to publish MIR in languages other than Esperanto language summaries than to stop its publication for good.
45 years ago dr. Imre Ferenczy (Hungary), then Secretary of UMEA and myself as a student of the 4 th year of the Faculty of Pharmacy dared to organize the 1 st IMEK in the Medical Academy in Krakow in 1977 under the support of the Rector prof. dr hab. med. Tadeusz POPIELA, to prove that Esperanto is suitable for scientific congresses and conferences. This year, on the same date 13-17 July 2022, the 22 nd IMEK took place in two Hungarian cities, namely Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely thanks to the Honorary Support of the Rector of the University of Szeged prof. László ROVÓ and Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Medical College prof. Tomasz GRODZICKI. Special mention should be made of the excellent cooperation with the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy in Szeged, prof. dr. habil. István ZUPKÓ, the Dean of the Agricultural Faculty of University in Szeged, Dr. habil. Edit MIKÓ. Thanks to an excellent collaboration with the Mayor of Hódmezővásárhely, dr. Péter MÁRKI-ZAY, the solemn opening of the current 22 nd IMEK has already taken place in this remarkable city, containing a historic Town Hall, for the 4 th time (previously IMEKs were opened here in the year 1979, 2010, 2020 and took place in July 2022 for the 4 th time, at the same time the second time organized together with University in Szeged. All the IMEKs that took place in Hódmezővásárhely were very well organized by Ms. Yumeiho-therapist Katarina FARAGÓ, who has been working tirelessly for UMEA for many years. In conclusion we invite all collaborators to prepare well for our jubilee of MIR.
